The absolute "must see" on Tenerife Island is without a doubt El Teide and the Cañadas.
Over 3800 meter high it is not only the tallest mountain of Spain but also one of the largest volcano craters on earth.

To prevent crowds gathering at the summit and to preserve this natural scene in all its beauty, the administration of national parks in the Canary Islands has made it a requirement to apply for a permit to access the summit itself which lies some 100 meters above the "Teleferico" cable car upper station.

The permit itself is free of charge and should be applied for 7 days in advance of actually visiting the summit.
The application can be sent by fax and the permit will be granted and sent the same way. It is therefore advisable to supply a spanish fax number for the office to return the permit to. If they will fax to foreign country numbers is not sure.

The application must be as shown below and must be sent with LEGIBLE copies of the passports of all persons included in the application.
